Geneva CEVA stations

Connecting new stations to the community

Applied worked with the Canton of Geneva to produce a wayfinding information system for three recently opened stations on a new segment (CEVA) of the Léman Express rail network connecting Switzerland to France. Designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, the stations are located in high traffic neighbourhoods.

The project integrates transit and last-mile onward journey information for travellers at the exterior and within concourses. A compact sign family, largely map-based, provides an overview of train stations and the surrounding environment. It supports people arriving at or leaving stations to explore surrounding neighbourhoods.

Reflecting the architecture

Applied led on the industrial design of the signs, working closely with manufacturers to create a system inspired by the modern architecture of the station buildings.

Metal beams that reflect construction materials are used for freestanding map-based signs.

Cost-effective information updates using digital screens

Digital screens are incorporated into the sign family, allowing for information to be easily changed in a cost-effective way.

Illuminated for visibility

A range of signs are illuminated to ensure travellers can see the information in low-light conditions.

Factory visits to ensure quality

Materials were chosen to be harmonious with the surrounding architecture and for durability in extreme weather conditions.

Applied undertook factory visits to ensure the quality of the product design.
