You will be responsible for raising Applied’s profile with external audiences and supporting business development activities. 

About the role

Working at Applied means working in a fast-paced environment where you will get to be involved with all aspects of communications and work on a variety of projects. You will report to the CEO and be responsible for developing and executing the company's communications strategy. This involves communicating the impact and value of innovative wayfinding and information systems for the world’s leading cities, organisations and institutions using a number of online and print media channels, events and written communications. 

Please note we are currently working from both the home and office, with most people typically working 2 days from the office and the rest from home.

Key tasks

  • Work with our external PR Agency to support PR initiatives. This includes organising content, coordinating press briefings, staying on top of project updates and strategically supporting the PR team in delivering high-quality press coverage in both national and international media;
  • Write content for digital platforms including the company website, social media channels and newsletter;
  • Support senior leaders in the company with external communications activities, e.g. preparing briefings for speaking engagements, researching and fact-checking for articles;
  • Be the first point of contact for communications queries, including managing Applied’s main enquiry inbox;
  • Monitor effectiveness of communications activities through analytics tools;
  • Stay up-to-date with news and trends in the industry;
  • Ensure Applied identity is being used correctly for external facing audiences.

What we are looking for

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter who loves working with communications across diverse channels and mediums, and who wants a varied day-to-day working with global outreach and in an organisation with the opportunity to grow. Applied is an international company with offices based in the US, Europe and Asia, on occasion there may be a need to adapt your work day to suit collaboration outside of your local time zone and international travel may be required.

We are looking for a candidate with

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field (or equivalent experience);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate, influence and negotiate both internally and externally;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and managing competing deadlines;
  • Experience devising and executing communications strategies and products;
  • Strong analytical and organisation skills, and the ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential issues;
  • An understanding of Social Media platforms and management tools;
  • Previous experience in copywriting and content creation for website, marketing and communications materials, newsletters, online media and press articles;
  • The drive to work autonomously and take initiative, as well as work collaboratively with others;
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations;
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to quickly establish relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels;
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) and MacOS;
  • An awareness and interest in design and the built environment.


  • 2-3 years experience working in communications, media, journalism or marketing, including coordination of an external agency;
  • Experience working with events or speaking engagements is also desirable 
  • Previous experience managing and commissioning external agencies, specialists and photographers to support the development of communications strategies, products and events;
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with website CMS; 
  • Knowledge and experience of using a CRM system;
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud.
